Employees can add progress updates as they work on an action item and write a reflection once it's finished. These entries appear in a unified timeline that shows key moments: milestones, steps, and what the employee learned.
Why It’s Helpful
This approach makes development more visible, tangible, and reflective:
Employees gain a clearer view of their growth by tracking how their thinking or behavior evolves.
Managers and coaches can see not just what was completed, but how it was approached.
Reflections add valuable context to conversations in 1:1s, reviews, and coaching.
What You’ll See
Each action item now includes:
A Progress Updates tab, where employees can log short entries about what they’ve done, discovered, or decided.
A “What I learned from this action item” field that appears after an action is marked complete.
A consolidated timeline that shows updates in order, helping connect day-to-day effort with long-term growth.
How It Works
To add a progress update:
Open an action item in the Action Planner.
Select the Progress Updates tab.
Write a short note about a step, milestone, or insight.
Select Save - your update will appear in the timeline.
To add a reflection:
Mark the action item as Completed.
Go to the Action Details tab.
Enter your reflection in the “What I learned from this action item” field.
Select Save - your reflection will appear in the timeline after the completion entry.
Who Can View It
Employees can see their own updates and reflections.
Managers and coaches can view shared action plans, including progress and reflections.
Admins gain richer insight into how development work is unfolding over time.
How this adds value to the goal process
Adding progress updates and reflections supports:
Momentum and motivation: Small wins are captured, making it easier to see and celebrate progress over time.
Stronger coaching conversations: Managers and coaches can engage with richer context, beyond surface-level status updates.
Deeper self-awareness: Employees are encouraged to pause, reflect, and articulate what they’re learning - not just what they’re doing.
Better goal alignment: Regular updates can reveal if an action item is still aligned with team priorities or if it needs to shift.
This encourages a culture where development is ongoing and supported, not just evaluated at the end.
