Why Development Goals Matter

Wonderlic Develop isn’t just about understanding yourself - it’s about using those insights to grow.

But many people ask: “I see my scores… now what?”

This guide will show you how to turn your Develop results into simple, targeted goals that actually make a difference in your day-to-day work.

Step 1: Choose a Focus Area

Start with one of your Spotlight Attributes:

  • Critical attributes: Most important for success in your role

  • Most Effort attributes: Traits that take more energy or don’t come naturally

  • Least Effort attributes: Strengths you can lean on more intentionally

Not sure where to start? Ask yourself:

  • What feels hardest in my day-to-day work?

  • What’s holding me back from being more effective?

  • Where do I want to grow?

Step 2: Use the Action Planner

Once you’ve picked a focus area, open the Action Planner in the platform. It will guide you through:

  1. Clarifying what you want to work on

  2. Choosing a realistic, behavior-based goal

  3. Writing down one small step you can take

Example:

  • Attribute: Adaptability (Most Effort)

  • Goal: Get more comfortable with last-minute changes at work

  • Action: When priorities shift, take 2 minutes to write down a new plan before reacting

Step 3: Share and Sustain

To build momentum, share your goal with a manager, coach, or peer. They can help:

  • Offer support and feedback

  • Make the goal part of 1:1s or check-ins

  • Celebrate progress and adjust when needed

You can also revisit the Journey Sections in your report - they include built-in examples and recommended action ideas for each attribute.

Pro Tips

  • Pick one goal at a time - small wins lead to bigger changes

  • Pair a Most Effort trait with a Least Effort trait for balance

  • Reflect regularly: What’s working? What needs tweaking?
