When a job opening arrives in Wonderlic Select without a scoring profile, assigning one releases the results for every candidate who has already tested.
Overview
A scoring profile tells Wonderlic Select how to score candidates for a particular job. Most openings get one automatically. An opening can arrive without one when the job title does not match anything in the Jobs Engine, or when your account is set up for your team to choose the profile instead of accepting an automatic match.
Candidates can still be invited and can still complete their assessments while the opening waits for a profile. What waits is the scoring: results are not calculated and are not sent to your ATS until a profile is assigned.
You need edit or admin access to the opening when logged into Select. If you receive an email asking you to assign a profile, the link in that email works even without a Wonderlic Select login.
Spot an opening that needs a profile
On your dashboard, an opening without a scoring profile is flagged in red. Its Total column still counts every candidate added to the opening, but the Active Candidates buckets are greyed out and show no totals. Those fill in once a profile is assigned and results are calculated.
You will also get an email when an opening is created without a profile. It names the opening and includes a link straight to profile selection.
Assign a profile from your dashboard
Click the flagged opening on your dashboard.
In the Assign a scoring profile message, click Continue.
Search by job title
Enter the job title in Search by Job Title. This field is required.
Add a Job Description if you have one. This is optional and does not impact scoring.
Click Find Scoring Profile.
A specific job title returns the most accurate scoring profile. "Systems Manager" will match better than "Manager".

Review and save
Check the profile under Review Wonderlic Scoring Profile, then click Assign Scoring Profile. Click Back if you want to choose a different one.
On Job Opening Details, check the Job Opening Name and the job opening settings. The job title from your ATS is read-only.
Click Save.
A profile found by job title shows a job summary and the key indicators of job performance, broken out by Cognitive Ability, Personality, and Motivation.
You land back on the dashboard. The opening is no longer flagged and its Active Candidates buckets are live.
Assign a profile from the email link
The email link opens the same profile selection screens without asking you to sign in, so it works for people who do not have a Wonderlic Select login.
Open the email from Wonderlic Select and click Assign Scoring Profile.
Enter a job title under Search Scoring Profiles.
Review the profile, then click Assign Scoring Profile.
Check the Job Opening Name and settings, then click Save.
Two things look different from the signed-in version. There is no Back to Wonderlic Select link in the header, and Follow Job Opening is not offered, because following an opening requires a Wonderlic Select login.
When you save, you land on a confirmation page rather than the dashboard.
The link works once and stays valid for 48 business hours after it is sent. If it has expired, ask an administrator on your account to assign the profile from the dashboard instead.
What to expect
Candidates are scored as soon as you save. Everyone who already finished testing gets their full results, and you get a results-ready email for them now rather than when they originally finished.
Partly finished candidates get partial results. Scores are calculated for the assessments they have completed. You will not get a results-ready email for them until they finish.
Candidates who have not started are unaffected. Their results appear when they finish testing, as normal.
The opening behaves normally from here. Dashboard columns fill in, you can open the opening detail page, and you can compare candidates.
FAQ
Can candidates still test while an opening has no scoring profile?
Yes. Candidates can be invited, start, and finish their assessments as normal. Only the scoring waits.
Will I lose results for candidates who tested before I assigned a profile?
No. Their assessment data is stored the whole time. Assigning a profile scores it.
What if I pick the wrong profile?
On the review step, click Back to choose again before you assign. If you have already saved, contact support.
What should I put in the Job Description field?
It is optional. If you have the description you posted for the role, paste it in. A specific job title matters more than the description for finding an accurate profile.
Why did I get this email instead of someone else on my team?
It depends on why the profile is missing. If your account is set up for your team to choose profiles, the email goes to the recruiter who created the job. If the Jobs Engine could not find a match, it goes to the account owner.
I do not have a Wonderlic Select login. Can I still assign a profile?
Yes, using the link in the email. It opens the same screens without asking you to sign in.
The link in my email does not work. What now?
Each link works once and expires 48 business hours after it is sent. Ask an administrator on your account to assign the profile from the dashboard, or contact support.
