Wonderlic Select emails you about the candidates you're following — when they begin their assessment and when their results are ready — so you can keep up without checking every day.
Overview
Every Wonderlic Select user controls their own email notifications. There's no role or permission to request — the settings are yours and changing them affects nobody else.
Two separate choices decide what lands in your inbox:
Choice | What it decides | Where you make it |
Following | Which candidates you're notified about | The Follow option on a job opening or candidate |
Notification preferences | Which updates about them send you email | The Manage Notifications page |
Both have to line up. If you follow a job opening but turn every notification preference off, you get no email. If you turn every preference on but follow nothing, you also get no email.
Being given access to a job opening does not start your email notifications. Access and following are separate. If someone adds you to a job opening, you still need to follow it yourself to be notified about its candidates.
Email isn't the only way to keep up. The Activity Feed on your Dashboard shows every candidate who completes their assessment, across all your job openings, without any setup — see Track candidates without email below.
Follow a job opening
Following a job opening notifies you about the candidates who apply to it. You're not notified about the job opening itself — following is simply how Wonderlic Select knows which candidates you care about.
Go to your Dashboard
Find the job opening in the Job Openings list
Open the action menu at the far right of the job opening's row — scroll the table sideways if you don't see it
Choose Follow
To stop receiving email about that job opening's candidates, open the same menu and choose Unfollow.
If you create a job opening yourself, you follow it automatically — the Follow Job Opening checkbox is turned on while you're creating it. Clear that checkbox if you'd rather not be notified about its candidates.
Follow a single candidate
Follow an individual candidate when you want to be notified about one person rather than everyone who applies to a job opening.
The Follow this candidate checkbox is turned on when you invite someone. Leave it on to follow them, or clear it if you don't want email about that candidate.
In the classic experience, you can also follow or unfollow a candidate after they've been invited: open the action menu next to their name and choose Follow or Unfollow.
Tip: If you already follow the job opening, you're notified about every candidate in it. Clearing Follow this candidate won't change that — to reduce email for a job opening you follow, adjust your notification preferences or unfollow the job opening.
Choose which notifications you receive
Your notification preferences decide which candidate updates send you email.
Wonderlic Select determines each candidate's fit for the job opening they applied to so you can choose which of those results you'd like to be notified about — and change that whenever you like.
Note: These settings only affect your own email. They don't change a candidate's results, their status, or who can see them, and every candidate stays in the job opening whatever you choose here.
Open the user menu (circle in the top right with your initials)
Choose Manage Notifications
Turn each setting under Email Settings on or off
Changes save as soon as you make them. There's no Save button and a short confirmation appears each time.
The table below lists the five settings and whether each one is on by default:
Setting | Emails you when a candidate | Default |
Starts testing | Begins their assessment | On |
Receives a strong fit score | Is a Strong Fit | On |
Receives a moderate fit score | Is a Moderate Fit | On |
Receives a cautionary fit score | Is a Cautionary Fit | Off |
Receives a weak fit score | Is a Weak Fit | Off |
If you've never changed these, you're notified when a followed candidate begins their assessment and when one is a Strong Fit or Moderate Fit. Turn on Receives a cautionary fit score or Receives a weak fit score to be notified about every candidate, whatever their fit.
What to expect
When a candidate starts. You're emailed once, as soon as they begin. If the candidate applied through a Quick Apply Link and hasn't entered their name and email yet, Wonderlic Select waits until they do, then sends the email — so it can arrive a little after they actually started.
When a candidate's results are ready. Once a candidate completes the last required activity — Cognitive Ability, Personality, and Motivation — Wonderlic Select determines their fit for that job opening and emails you if it matches one of your settings. Other activities, such as demographic questions or an optional survey, don't hold up the email. That's why you can be notified while the candidate is still finishing the final steps.
Every one of these emails includes a link back to your Manage Notifications page, so you can adjust your settings straight from your inbox.
Track candidates without email
The Activity Feed lists candidates who have completed their assessment, newest first. It updates as new candidates finish. You'll find it on your new Dashboard, in the panel labeled Recent activity:
It works differently from email notifications in a way that's useful:
| Email notifications | Activity Feed |
Covers | Only job openings and candidates you follow | Every job opening you have access to |
Setup | Follow, then choose your settings | None — it's there already |
Filters by fit | Yes, through your preferences | No — every completed candidate appears |
Where it arrives | Your inbox | Your Dashboard |
Each entry shows the candidate's name, which job opening they applied to, and how long ago they finished, with a link straight to their results.
Because the Activity Feed needs no setup and covers everything you can see, it's a good way to keep up without adding to your inbox — and a reliable fallback if you're ever unsure whether you're following the right job openings.
Note: The Activity Feed also shows account messages, such as when your plan is next due to bill.
FAQ
Why wasn't I notified about a candidate for my job opening?
You're most likely not following the job opening. Go to your Dashboard, find the job opening, and open its action menu — if it says Follow, you aren't following it yet. Being assigned to a job opening doesn't start email notifications on its own. The Activity Feed on your Dashboard shows completed candidates whether or not you follow anything, so check there if you think you've missed someone.
I don't want more email. Can I still keep track of candidates?
Yes. The Activity Feed on your Dashboard lists every candidate who completes their assessment, across all the job openings you have access to, with no setup and no following required. You can leave your notification preferences turned off and work from the Activity Feed instead.
I turned my notifications off, so why am I still getting email from Wonderlic Select?
These five settings only cover candidate email notifications. Other email — a shared Data Report or a message telling you you've been added to an account — isn't controlled here and keeps arriving.
Can I use different settings for different job openings?
No. Your notification preferences apply to every job opening and candidate you follow. To be notified about some job openings and not others, follow only the ones you want.
I cleared "Follow this candidate" but I'm still getting email about them.
That checkbox only matters if you don't follow their job opening. If you follow the job opening, you're notified about every candidate in it.
My colleague was notified about a candidate and I wasn't.
Three things can cause this, and they stack:
They may follow that job opening or candidate when you don't — following is per person, and being on the same team doesn't share it
They may also have access to a job opening that you don't, in which case you won't be notified about its candidates at all
And if you both follow it, your notification preferences may still differ: if their settings include that candidate's fit and yours don't, the same candidate emails them and not you
Why was I notified before the candidate finished everything?
Their fit is determined once the last required activity is done. Anything remaining, like demographic questions or an optional survey, doesn't delay it.
Someone left our team. Will they stop getting email about our candidates?
Remove them from your account and they'll stop. Contact support if you need help.
